trauma-informed yoga classes in ithaca
509 N Meadow St Ithaca NY 14850
Welcome to your Hometown Yoga Studio!
Yoga Farm Ithaca is a trauma-informed yoga studio, this means many things, one of which is that we generally do not do hands-on assists and adjustments. We also try our best to teach from our own mats.
Adjustments and assists can be great, and they can also be triggering. It also is an assumption made by the yoga teacher that we know what is happening inside a student’s body and experience, which we cannot actually know. If you are a big fan of adjustments and assists, you can make those requests. Some of our teachers may accommodate that, and it is up to the teacher what they feel comfortable with.
We are a global yoga school, and nonprofit organization and our specialties are Kundalini and QiGong. This means that the energy body is the primary focus during all of our classes. In a gentle class, you are likely to also experience breathwork and energetic shifts, beyond the physical layer of the body.
If you are looking for power flow yoga and “workout” focused on the physical body alone, we might not be the spot for you. Here you can expect pranayama, spirituality and whole body wellness in each class.
UPCOMING EVENTS
Friday, December 5th 7:30-9p
LivAvtar will lead you through the blissful practice of Kirtan chanting, sharing original songs from her years as a mantra singer and recording artist, as well as popular songs by artists like Krishna Das and Snatam Kaur.
As participants, you are invited to chant along, drop into a profound state of meditation, and/or move to the music as you feel inspired.
Kirtan chanting is a soulful musical practice involving the repetition of mantras from different traditions accompanied by simple melodies. Participants engage in call and response singing, creating a communal and meditative state of flow and connection. Kirtan transcends cultural and religious boundaries, attracting people from different backgrounds who are seeking a meditative and heart-opening experience.
During this 90-minute experience, you'll practice a deep meditation before relaxing and opening your mind, body and spirit to the healing vibrations of the gongs and other vibrational instruments. You’ll leave feeling aligned, open to possibility, and deeply at peace.
During a gong meditation, participants are immersed in a symphony of resonant tones and vibrations, which can help induce a state of profound relaxation, reduce stress and anxiety, and promote mental clarity. The complex and harmonious soundscapes created by the gongs are believed to facilitate a natural healing process, aiding in the release of physical and emotional tension, while also encouraging a heightened sense of introspection and mindfulness. Gong meditations can be particularly beneficial for individuals seeking an alternative form of meditation that engages multiple senses and offers a path to inner peace and holistic well-being.
Participants can expect to be seated and lying down during the event according to each person’s comfort level. Wear clothes that allow the body to rest comfortably, bring any props you may need and a water bottle

Join Yoga Farm downtown studio to participate in a beginner friendly "basic moves" belly dancing class!
Together, we will go over different Belly Dancing Basic Moves from head to toe, engaging our bodies in the art of isolation, undulation, and channeling serpent-like energy. This workshop is great for folx brand new to the dance and also works as a great "tune-up class" for more experienced practitioners.
Natalya will provide coin belts to borrow for the duration of class, as well as silk veils and other props to experiment with and explore. Students are welcome to dress up in belly dancing garb for the workshops, or come in comfortable clothes that feel right for motion and exploration--whatever makes you feel free and dancy!
The majority of the workshop will feature exploration of physical motions, flexions, and exercises, with time carved out towards the end for free dancing, the opportunity to learn dance combinations and routines, and experimenting with dance props. All folx are welcome.
sunday, December 21st 4-5p
A gentle yoga class taught in simple Spanish to raise funds for the local non-profit in Ithaca, NY - Open Doors English - which teaches English as a second language to adult learners. The classes will be taught by Astrid Jirka of Vahana Yoga, a certified yoga instructor and intermediate-level Spanish speaker. Classes are hybrid and can be taken online. They are donation-based but reservations are necessary on the Yoga Farm website. Donations can be made in cash in person or online while registering. Suggested donation amount is $30.

Join us for an immersive Mala Making Workshop where you will learn the art of creating beautiful, personalized gemstone malas. All materials are provided, and you’ll take home your own 27 bead mala that you can use for mantra recitation, breath work or meditation.
This hands-on experience allows you to craft your own spiritual accessory, designed to inspire mindfulness and positive energy. Perfect for beginners and experienced crafters alike, the workshop offers an environment to relax, connect, and create lasting keepsakes while learning about the historical and spiritual significance of malas. You will also infuse your mala with your own personal intentions and energies. An opportunity for guided practices, for example mantra meditation, with your new mala will close out the experience.
Deadline to register is one week prior (put date here) so materials for your mala can be ordered. For registrations after that date, a gemstone preference might not be available. Please email LivAvtarKaur10@gmail.com with your gemstone preference from those below.
